Brewblox release 2023/07/27

firmware release date: 2023/07/26
firmware release date: 2023/07/27 (hotfix that reverts open load causing unknown actuator state)
firmware release date: 2023/07/29 (see first topic reply)

Holiday closure

The shop will be closed from July 29 to August 18. If you place an order during this period, it will ship after the 18th.

Digital Input

The OneWire GPIO Module block now supports Input channels for detecting either low current (3-100mA) or high current (30-1000mA). These can be used by the new Digital Input block. When current is detected (the circuit is closed), the Digital Input block state will be active.
Digital Input state can be used in Sequence instructions (WAIT_DIGITAL_STATE) and in the Logic Actuator block.

GPIO channel changes

Some channels will now be configured differently when inactive. Previously, some pins were connected to GND when inactive. Now, they will be not connected to either supply or GND.

Additionally, overcurrent errors no longer need to be cleared manually.
Open Load checks have been added. Channels will report this error when no current flows when they are turned on.

NC = not connected
GND = ground, negative pole of supply
SUPPLY = positive pole of supply

Type Inactive before Inactive after Active before Active after Max current Open Load

Changes

  • (feature) Added the Digital Input block, and GPIO input channel types.
  • (feature) Added the Display: Digital Builder part. This shows state for a Digital Actuator, Motor Valve or Digital Input block.
  • (feature) The Sequence block now support comments. Use a # to start a comment line.
  • (improve) The GPIO module will automatically clear overcurrent errors.
  • (improve) The Sequence block no longer requires system time to be set.
    • Some instructions (WAIT_UNTIL, START_PROFILE, WAIT_PROFILE) still require system time to be set.
  • (improve) The Sequence block widget now shows time remaining for WAIT_DURATION and WAIT_UNTIL instructions.
  • (fix) Quick Actions now correctly track and save prompted settings.
  • (fix) Quick Actions now correctly switch previously claimed blocks to manual control.
  • (fix) The brewblox-hass service will now correctly replace - characters in entity names.
  • (fix) The controller will no longer crash when it can’t get an IP address after connecting.
  • (fix) Excessive mDNS traffic will no longer cause buffer overflows on the Spark 2/3.
  • (dev) Added /blocks/batch/{create|read|write|patch|delete} endpoints to the Spark service.

We just released a second hotfix for a bug that escaped our testing but were reported by a user this morning:

Fast PWM channels or digital actuators with soft start enabled could trigger open load detection when inactive and cause the output to be turned on while reporting it to be turned off.

with the new Digital Input functionality, can inputs be setup from a DS2413? Is there a way to link inputs to outputs (for example link a fridge door switch to the fridge light)?

DS2413 channels can’t be used as input.

The two main ways to link input to output are the Logic Actuator and Sequence blocks. For a direct link scenario such as a fridge door light, Logic Actuator would be most convenient.

It is possible in hardware, I just did implement it in this release.

Is there a plan to implement it in a future release? I know that theoretically DS2413 channels can be used as outputs or inputs.

Yes, I can add it after my holiday.
