Anyone have a great recommendation for a live webcam that works in the dark (LEDs) that has the right wide angle lens to see a lot within a very close proximity (12" or less).
Also, needs to work with the raspberry pi 3.

Look at this article from, Raspberry Pi about using USB Webcams. Just find one thats wide angle and infared capable or even just get a W/LAN enabled one.

Can have it toggle a LED light, take a snapshot and then read the snapshot from the camera storage on the Pi.
